Spatial distribution of sediment phosphorus in a Ramsar wetland

چکیده

Abstract Eutrophication is a significant threat to surface water biodiversity worldwide, with excessive phosphorus concentrations being among the most common causes. Wetland ditches under these conditions shift from primarily submerged aquatic vegetation algae or duckweed dominance, leading shading and anoxic conditions. Phosphorus, both point (e.g. wastewater treatment works) diffuse (largely agricultural runoff) sources, currently central reason for failure in majority of bodies England meet required quality guidelines. This study assesses storage ditch systems at West Sedgemoor, designated site special scientific interest. Elevated sediment was observed across Moor up 4220 mg Kg?1, almost 10 times that which may be expected background levels. The highest were generally more intensively farmed sites north moor, near key inlets outlet. Based upon their chemical physical properties, clear distinction between outside within Royal Society Protection Birds nature reserve, using principal component analysis.

Distribution and abundance of fish populations in Harike wetland--a Ramsar site in India.

Harike wetland was declared a Ramsar site in 1990. It is located at the confluence of two major rivers of Indus rivers system, the Beas and the Sutlej, but was never explored extensively for its existing fish biodiversity. Earlier only 27 fish species of commercial value were reported from the wetland. Acknowledging its importance for rich diversity fish assemblages in seven different reaches o...

Spatial variability, distribution and uncertainty assessment of soil phosphorus in a south Florida wetland

Phosphorus enrichment has been of major concern in the Greater Everglades (GE) ecosystem since the early 1980s. Our objectives were to estimate spatio–temporal patterns of soil total phosphorus (TP) in Water Conservation Area 2A (WCA-2A) in the GE ecosystem and to compare two different geostatistical methods: ordinary kriging (OK) and conditional sequential Gaussian simulation (CSGS), addressin...

Spatial patterns of labile forms of phosphorus in a subtropical wetland.

Phosphorus (P) has been identified as the key constituent defining wetland productivity, structure, and function. Our goal was to investigate the spatial patterns of total P and three labile forms of P (labile organic, inorganic, and microbial biomass P) across a subtropical wetland located in east-central Florida, the Blue Cypress Marsh Conservation Area (BCMCA), and link spatial patterns to e...

Characterization of change in the Harike wetland, a Ramsar site in India, using landsat satellite data

The increasing population in the developing countries has rendered wetlands vulnerable to land use changes. Remote sensing offers a rapid and efficient means of data acquisition of ecosystems in time and space. The present study was undertaken to identify changes in the Harike wetland, a Ramsar site in the state of Punjab, India; and identify causal factors, as well as vulnerable areas threaten...
